Ferranti/ICT/ICL official correspondence and memos regarding employment contracts, take-overs and share information and computer orders (sales).

Scope and Content

  • (a). Letters and contracts, autumn 1963, concerning the take-over of Ferranti’s mainframe computer division by ICT and the re-deployment of Joan and John Travis as ICT staff.
  • (b). Two staff lists for ICL’s Research and Advanced Development Centre, 1970/71 and 1973/74. In the earlier list. Joan and John Travis appear under the System Projects Branch, headed by G J Boughton. In the later list, they appear in the Language and Processors Department, under J K Iliffe.
  • (c). Letter from ICL to Joan, 23rd July 1984, regarding change of her employment location from Stevenage to Bracknell.
  • (d). ‘Diary of significant dates and events, produced on 27th July 1984 and covering April 1984 to July 1984 regarding change of employment and location’. Informal document produced by Joan.
  • (e). Two November 1989 newspaper articles commenting on the break-up of the Ferranti company.
  • (f). Formal letters to Ferranti shareholders, October and November 1993, relevant to the acquisition of Ferranti’s stock by GEC.
  • (g). Acceptance of Ferranti share offer, 24 November 1993, plus hand-written summary of Travis share holdings, 22 March 1994.
  • (h). Orders for Pegasus, Mercury, Perseus and Orion. 2-page Quarto typed memo from Ferranti‘s Newman Street (London) office, dated 15th June 1960. Where a computer has actually been installed, the date of delivery is quoted.
