To Harry, thanks for the two letters of 17 Nov. Comments obliquely on his brother's new job. Has t made trips to Peshawar, Bombay and Lahore. Peshawar in particular was a long haul. Celebrated a small birthday party with Jessie Auchinleck, the McNeils and a couple of other friends, joined by Sir Clark Kerr, the ex-ambassador to China. Watched a military procession in honour of Chiang Kai-shek [1887-1975, leader of Republican China] [note Ridgway says the parade was "rather shaming" because no tanks or armoured cars].
