Scope and Content

A title page, written in Radford's hand, has been placed at the front of the essay, which reads "Essay on Uterine Haemorrhage which occurs during Pregnancy and Labour with illustrative cases by Medicus 1816". The author gives his address at the end of the introduction as 'Golden Square'. Golden Square, London was known to have a number of medical men resident in the area during the 19th century, but no specific name is given.

The essay seeks to highlight the benefits of the use of opium in the treatment of uterine haemorrhages and uses descriptions of a total of 18 different labours attended by the author. The essay is divided into the following sections:
