The volume contains an assortment of extracts from published medical works. Pages 1-12 are written in French and the rest of the text is in German. The source of each extract is usually given and general subjects etc. are noted in the margins. Some of the subjects touched upon include: febrifuges [antipyretics], quinine sulphate, rickets, fungus papillaris, croup, various medical recipes and preparations (some attributed to specific people), medicinal properties of a number of plants
The main text has the original pagination pp.1-180. A note inserted into the front of the manuscript indicates that it was transferred to the Medical Library of Owens College by Dr W. Tyson.
