Manuscript on the history of the art of midwifery outlined by Georg Albrecht Fried in which the author makes reference to a great number of 16th-18th century European writers who published works on the subject in addition to the writings of ancient writers such as Hippocrates, Galen, Avicenna, and Paul of Aegina amongst others. The title implies the text was originally written in 1769 and improved upon in 1771.

Folios 33-42 are blank and the main text bears the original pagination pp.1-62. An inscription on the inside front cover indicates that the manuscript was acquired by the Manchester Medical Society in February 1876 and that it was subsequently allocated the number GO 3067.

Georg Albrecht Fried (1736-1773) was a noted obstetrician and also the son of another celebrated German obstetrician, Johann Jakob Fried (1689-1769). He was born in Strasbourg, which is where he also qualified as a doctor of medicine and also later taught at the Strassburger Gebäranstalt, where midwifery skills were taught but was not connected to the medical faculty of the University at the time. He published the work Anfangsgründe der Geburtshülfe in 1769.
