Medd was senior surgeon to Stockport Infirmary and in 1860 was in practice in Stockport with his son, William Henry Medd. Medd was a member of the Royal Society of Medicine of Edinburgh and a corresponding member of the National Vaccination Establishment. John Medd junior was probably his son.
