Lovell was pathological registrar at Ancoats Hospital Manchester, clinical assistant to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and a researcher in the department of bacteriology and preventive medicine at the University of Manchester. She later settled in Hendon, London. She was married to Reginald Lovell.
