Marsden was a pupil at Manchester Grammar School and MRI. He was house surgeon at MRI from 1831 until 1833. A Mr Marsden was listed in the prospectus of Marsden Street School for 1834 as lecturer in anatomy, this may be Richard Marsden. Marsden died in autumn 1834.
