Ashton was a medical pupil at MRI in 1837. In 1838 an Ashton, probably Joseph, received a certificate of Medical Practice. The 1845 Medical Directory gives a Joseph Ashton, who became a Licentiate of the Apothecaries Company in 1839 and practised in Stalybridge.
