Correspondence with Lewis A. Northend, journalist, relating to requests to be considered for employment in the parliamentary gallery staff of the Manchester Guardian, with reference to his current work as a reporter for the paper, which is declined. Also included is a related internal memorandum.

There is discussion of a conflict over Northend's attendance at the annual meeting of the Conservative Association in order to report for the Manchester Guardian, at which he is requested to leave, though later, this request is removed, and he is invited to stay. There is also correspondence relating to Northend's entitlement to employment in Manchester during the [parliamentary] recess.
