Scope and Content

Correspondence with George Edward Bateman Saintsbury (1845-1933), literary scholar and historian, relating to discussion of a new column by Saintsbury on [foreign affairs] for the Manchester Guardian, with reference to content and payment. Also included is a tribute to Scott as an editor and praise of the Manchester Guardian by Saintsbury, and a request by Scott for an article on cookery and wines by Saintsbury for publication in the paper. There is a letter between Oliver Elton, literary scholar and translator, and W.P. Crozier, relating to an expression of thanks for use granted to him of the correspondence between Saintsbury and the paper to aid in a memoir on Saintsbury for the British Academy, with discussion of his work for the paper.
