Scope and Content

Correspondence between William Parkinson, secretary of the North Western Free Trade Union, and E.T. Scott, relating to an offer of information, axioms and slogans for publication in the Manchester Guardian in response to the activities of the Empire Free trade party, which are accepted for potential future use. Also included is a request to reprint a speech on [free trade] made by [Philip] Snowden, politician and published in the paper, which is granted.

Also included are expressions of congratulations from the North West Free Trade Union's committee on committee on leader articles on free trade, and a report of a speech by Robert Graham ['The Effect of Trade Barriers on Primary Producers'] published in the Manchester Guardian, which are received with thanks. There is also a letter to [Gilbert] Beard, containing an apology for an inability to publish an [unknown] article by Beard in the paper, despite an attempt to make corrections.
