Correspondence with William A. Robson

Scope and Content

Correspondence with William Alexander Robson (1895-1980), jurist and reformer, relating to a request to be considered for employment at the Manchester Guardian, with details of previous experience, which is declined, owing to a lack of vacancies, but with a request for specimens of Robson's work, which are provided. Also included is correspondence with Harold Laski, political theorist, relating to the recommendation of Robson for potential employment, and discussion of staffing requirements at the paper. There is a request by Robson to be considered as a reviewer of books for the paper, with an outline of his specialist subjects.

Also included is an offer of a series of articles by Robson from a visit to America as part of a tour of universities in America to give addresses for the Inter-Collegiate Liberal Union of the USA, which is declined. There is also a further request by Robson to be considered for employment at the paper, which is declined, and for consideration as a reviewer of books, which is granted. There are requests by Scott for articles by Robson on the role and history and the position of alderman, and on proposals for the amalgamation of public services, accompanied by discussion of payment for articles. Also included is an offer by Robson of a series of articles taken from chapters of a book by Robson entitled The Development of Local Government, in which interest is expressed.
