Correspondence with Arthur Smithells (1860-1939), chemist, relating to a request for a meeting to discuss a proposal for a series of articles on chemistry for the Manchester Guardian, to assist in general education on the subject [during the First World War], which are declined, but with the suggestion that Smithells provide an article on chemistry in relation to the present situation.

Also included is praise and appreciation of the Manchester Guardian by Smithells, and discussion of an address by Arthur Keith ['Darwin's Theory of Man's Descent As It Stands To-day' given to the British Science Association].
