Scope and Content

Correspondence with Joseph Smith Thornton, educationist, relating to a request by Thornton for a letter of support for an application for a grant from the Gilchrist Trust to support investigations by Thornton into the educational system in Denmark, which is granted. There is discussion of the refusal of the Board of Education to recognise the examinations of the College of Preceptors, of articles contributed by Thornton to the Manchester Guardian, and the provision of material by Thornton to Scott on the [general] strike, 1926. Also included is the provision of articles on education by Thornton to Scott, and an expression of congratulations on Scott's 80th birthday.
