Correspondence with Alexander M. Thompson (1861-1948), journalist and dramatist, relating to an offer of an article for the Manchester Guardian proposing a working agreement between the Liberal and Labour parties, which is accepted, and a request by Thompson to be considered for employment by the paper. Also included is discussion of the correspondence provoked by Thompson's article, the provision of newspaper cuttings of the letters to Thompson, and a request by Thompson to write a further article in summation of the debate. There is discussion of the opposition to Thompson's proposed alliance between the parties, and a suggestion by Thompson that the debate might be continued through contributions to a feature for the Saturday edition of the paper, which is declined. There is an offer by Thompson of his services as a correspondent in Paris, on the death of [J.G.] Hamilton, journalist, which is also declined.

There is correspondence between Thompson and E.T. Scott, relating to a request by Thompson that the Manchester Guardian provide funding for a visit to Russia, and an offer of articles from the trip, which is declined.
