One of the Sheehan family of Carlisle (see above), Harold Sheehan gained his medical education at the University of Manchester where he was lecturer in pathology until 1934, working with Shaw Dunn and Sam Baker. Sheehan was a member of Manchester Medical Society. Sheehan was then director of research at the Maternity Hospital, until 1946. Sheehan was professor of pathology at the University of Liverpool from 1946 to 1965. He published widely on pathology and obstetrics. His best known work was on Simmonds Disease, which is now often referred to as Simmonds-Sheehan or Sheehans disease. He was made an FRCOG for his contributions to obstetric pathology.
