Ramsbottom graduated in medicine from the University of Manchester in 1909, and took the DPH in 1914. He was a house surgeon at MRI and a RMO at Chorlton on Medlock Dispensary. He later worked as medical officer at the Cardigan Sanatorium Wakefield, and was a medical officer for Essex County Council.
