Tutton was consultant neurosurgeon to Preston and Chorley, Blackburn, Burnley, Blackpool and Fylde, Lancaster and Kendal, Barrow, Lancaster Moor and Whittingham Hospital Groups. He had trained at the University of Manchester and held resident appointments at Manchester Northern Hospital and MRI before being appointed senior residential neurosurgeon to the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford. Tutton was Hunterian Professor of the RCS. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a member of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons.
