William Ramsay studied medicine at Glasgow University. He worked in Glasgow and Liverpool. He was medical superintendent at Crumpsall Hospital, Manchester for fourteen years. After the Second World War he worked as anm administrative medical officer for Sheffield Regional Hospital Board.
