Somerford, possibly Alxander's older sister, was a pathologist in Manchester. She was a medical graduate of the University of Manchester, and was house physician at Stanley Hospital, Liverpool. Somerford then returned to Manchester and was pathologist at St Mary's Hospital, assistant director of the Clinical Laboratory at MRI and assistant pathologist and radiologist at Manchester and District Radium Institute (later Christie Hospital). She was later pathologist to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and had consulting rooms in St John Street, Manchester. Somerford was a member of Manchester Medical and Pathological Societies.
