Wadsworth gained his medical qualifications from Cambridge University in 1986. In 1979 he was appointed senior house officer in anaesthetics to the University Hospitals of South Manchester, and was registrar in anaesthetics at Bolton and MRI before being appointed consultant anaesthetist to MRI. He was a member of the Association of Anaesthetists and gained his FRCA in 1992.
