Shaikh gained his medical education at the Grant Medical College, Bombay. Shaik was consultant physician in geriatrics at Ashton, Hyde and Glossop Hospital Group. He had previously been geriatric registrar at Whipps Cross Hospital London and senior registrar at Crumpsall Hospital.
