Shuck was born in Manchester in 1920 and was educated at Chorlton Grammar School and the University of Manchester. He was assistant RMO at Crumpsall Hospital and RMO at Birkenhead Municipal Hospital before settling in general practice in Prestwich, near Manchester. Shuck was a member of Manchester Medical Society and the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists.
