Stocks, the son of Alfred William Stocks, received his medical education at Manchester. He held junior appointments at Salford Royal Hospital and MRI, and was honorary assistant surgeon to the Clinical Hospital, Manchester, and Hulme Dispensary. Stocks later settled in general practice in Withington. Stocks was a member of Manchester Medical Society.
