Margaret Tod, known as Peggy, was deputy director of the Holt Radium Institute, Manchester. She came to medicine relatively late, as she had trained as a VAD and in physiotherapy during the first war. She gained her medical education at the University of Edinburgh and held various resident appointments in Edinburgh before being appointed consultant radiological surgeon to Edinburgh Hospital for Women and Children. In 1937 Tod appointed deputy director of the Holt Radium Institute and was later honorary clinical lecturer in radiotherapy at the University of Manchester. Her specialist area was the treatment of cancer of the uterus with radiotherapy, and she published a number of papers on the subject. Tod organised the Manchester diploma courses on radiology. Tod was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a member of the British Institute of Radiology and was on the Radium Commission. Tod died on 26 July 1953, aged 60.
