Twort researched causes and prevention of mule spinners' cancer at the University of Manchester from 1926 to 1938. He had studied medicine at Aberdeen University before coming to Manchester. Twort was Beit Fellow, Rose Research Fellow and finally Director of Cancer Research at the University of Manchester. Twort was a member of MMS. He died in September 1950.
