Watson studied at Manchester Royal School of Medicine and qualified in 1862. He was originally a medical officer at the county asylum, Prestwich, near Manchester, and was later in practice in Ardwick, Manchester. He was a member of Manchester Medical Society and Manchester Clinical Society.
