Sissons studied medicine at Owens College. He was house surgeon at MRI and RMO at Crumpsall Hospital before moving to Hull. Sissons was anaesthetist to Hull Royal Infirmary and later to Hull Hospital for Women and Orthopaedics. He was also medical officer of health for Cottingham Urban District Council and district medical officer for Hull Union.
