Stent was born in Manchester and educated at Sale High School and the University of Manchester. She soon developed an interest in pathology and after two years in clinical posts she was awarded the Delepine research fellowship in the department of bacteriology at the University of Manchester. Stent undertook research into maternal sepsis in obstetrics, for which she was awarded her MD. Stent then became assistant pathologist to the City of Salford before being appointed pathologist to Withington Hospital in 1946. Stent was president of the pathology section of the Manchester Medical Society in 1956. She retired in 1963 and died on 2 December 1982 aged 81.
