White was a graduate of the Welsh National School of Medicine. He worked at hospitals in Cardiff and at Great Ormond St. Hospital London, where he undertook work on the pathology of tumours in children. In 1957 he was appointed pathologist at Booth Hall Children's Hospital, Manchester.
