Christine Webb trained as a nurse in London. She later studied at the University of Manchester and received a Ph.D for research into recovery from hysterectomy. She lectured in nursing at the University of Manchester and Bristol Polytechnic before being appointed professor of nursing at the University of Manchester in 1989.
