Denis Williams qualified at the University of Manchester in 1932 and received the MD with gold medal in 1935. He was awareded a Rockefeller Travelling Fellowship to study neurology at Harvard University, where he worked with EEG machinery and brought back the first EEG apparatus to be used clinically in England. In 1946 he was appointed consultant physician at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London and he also held positions at St. George's Hospital and the King Edward VII Hospital. Williams published a number of articles and was known for his support for patient-centred medicine.
