Steinthal gained his medical education at Owens College and St Bartholomew's, and worked for a time at the London Homeopathic Hospital.He practised for a while in Rochdale before returning to consulting practice in Manchester. He was honorary physician to the Homeopathic Institute and Dispensary, Hulme. Steinthal was also a prominent freemason. He retired from practice in 1936 and died on 5 December 1938, aged 78.
