Staley gained his medical education at the Universities of Edinburgh and Manchester. He settled in general practice in St Anne's-on-Sea and was surgeon to the Rochdale Convalescent Home and the Manchester Sunday School Seaside Convalescent Home. Staley was later ship surgeon on the Saxonia, of the Cunard Line. Staley died on 29 August 1920.
