Lily Allan married John Sebastian Bach Stopford (see below) in 1916. She studied medicine at Manchester where she gained academic distinction. She was Ashby Memorial Research Scholar, Dauntesey Medical Scholar and won the Dumville Surgical Prize. Stopford was demonstrator of anatomy at the University of Manchester and RSO at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. She was for many years ophthalmic specialist to the Manchester Education Committee. Stopford became a justice of the peace in 1937.In 1957 she was awarded an honorary MA at the University of Manchester for public services. Baroness Stopford died on 29 June 1978 aged 87.
