Samuel gained his medical education at the University of Manchester and held house appointments at Ancoats Hospital and Salford Royal Hospital. He then spent a number of years engaged in research at the Anatomy Department of the University and the Department of Rheumatism Research at MRI. He made some anatomical studies of the nervous system which were of well-recognised importance before settling in general practice in Gatley, Manchester. Samuel was a member of Manchester Medical Society and of the Anatomical Society of Great Britain.
