MRCS LRCP 1917; MSc Manch 1926, DSc 1938.

Stewart studied medicine and dentistry at Manchester, but did not continue his dental studies due to the war. He was house surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital, St Mary's Hospital and MRI. From 1920, he was demonstrator then lecturer in anatomy at the University of Manchester. He spent many years investigating nerve supply to the teeth.Stewart was also examiner in Anatomy for the University and for the Chartered Society of Massage and Medical Gymnastics. Stewart was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a member of Manchester Medical Society and a council member of the Anatomical Society of Great Britain.
