Vernon was born in Marple on 29 November 1909 and was educated at Stockport Secondary School and the University of Manchester, where he was demonstrator of anatomy. Vernon held a number of resident appointments at MRI. He was consultant surgeon to Isle of Man Hospital from 1939 until his retirement in 1973. Vernon married Kathleen Henderson, who was also a medical practitioner (see MMC/2/HendersonK). He was a member of Manchester Medical Society and of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. Vernon died on 29 August 1975.
