Schraibman was born in South Africa on 4 October 1930. After gaining his medical education at Witwatersrand University, Schraibman held junior appointments in Johannesburg and was anatomy lecturer. In 1959 he came to England and held resident appointments at Hammersmith and Royal Free Hospital London. He then spent a year as a research assistant in Melbourne before doing research at the Western Infirmary Glasgow. Around 1969, Schraibman was appointed consultant surgeon to Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale, and was also a member of the Board of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manchester. He was later also appointed consultant surgeon to Highfield Private Hospital in Rochdale and clinical lecturer to the Royal College of Surgeons. Schraibman was a member of Manchester Medical Society, the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and the Regional Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association.
