Torr, known as Doughty, was born in Disley, Cheshire, on 18 February 1923, and was educated at Stockport Grammar School and the University of Manchester. After qualifying, Torr held resident appointments at Withington Hospital and MRI and served as medical officer in the RAF from 1950 to 1951. Torr was married to Barbara Clough (see MMC/2/TorrB above), probably in the 1940s. He was later lecturer in anatomy at the University of Manchester and part time lecturer in oral surgery to the Manchester Dental Hospital. Torr was a member of Manchester Medical Society.
