Rose was a medical graduate of the University of Manchester. He lectured in surgery at the University of Manchester, and was a consultant surgeon at Withington Hospital. He was a former president of the Vascular Surgical Society in 1982/3 and president of the surgical section of Manchester Medical Society in 1982-3.
