Stalker studied medicine at Manchester and King's College London. She held junior public health appointments in Wigan and Eastbourne before being appointed senior assistant school medical officer for Tottenham. Stalker was also an examiner and lecturer in Home Nursing. She was a fellow of the Society of Medical Officers of Health.
