Sephton was educated at Cambridge, Manchester and St Bartholomew's. He was assistant medical officer to Lancaster County Mental Hospital and to The Lawn, Lincoln. Sephton was later appointed deputy medical superintendent to Lancashire County Mental Hospital in Lancaster. He may have been related to the other Sephton doctors (see above).
