Sellars gained his medical education in Dublin and held house appointments in Salford. He joined his brother Jack in general practice in Blackburn and became anaesthetist to the Royal Infirmary and later consultant anaesthetist. He was a founder member of the Manchester Society of Anaesthetists, and was president of the Section of Anaesthetics of Manchester Medical Society in 1965 and 1966. Sellars died on 10 May 1970 aged 71.
