Tasker held resident appointments in London and Warrington and was surgical registrar at David Lewis North Hospital, Liverpool. From 1949 to 1955 he was surgical first assistant at Sheffield Royal Infirmary. He then came to Manchester as consultant surgeon, practising in St John Street, and was consulting surgeon to Crumpsall and Ancoats Hospitals, and later to Manchester Northern Hospitals.
