Taylor gained his medical education at the University of Manchester and held surgical appointments at Ancoats Hospital, Christie Cancer Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary before being appointed RSO at Salford Royal Hospital. Taylor was later honorary surgeon to Bury Infirmary. He was a member of Manchester Medical and Pathological Societies.
